Turkmenistan is participating in the Global Forum on Sustainable Transport 2026, which is being held Sept. 22-23 in Beijing. A high-level meeting on the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TITR) was held as part of the forum, with the participation of the Deputy Chairman of the State Maritime and River Transport Service of Turkmenistan, the Turkmenbashi International Seaport reported on its social media.
During the meeting, the Turkmen representative highlighted the importance of developing multimodal transportation, improving logistics efficiency, strengthening cooperation between seaports and railway administrations, and accelerating the digital transformation of the transport sector.
Particular attention was paid to developing the Turkmenbashi International Seaport as an important link in the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route, expanding maritime transportation across the Caspian Sea and further developing the national merchant fleet.
The Global Forum on Sustainable Transport 2026 brings together transport ministers, heads of international organizations, government officials, business representatives and experts to discuss international cooperation in sustainable transport. The forum is being held under the theme "Sustainable Transport: Easier Movement of People and Smoother Flow of Goods."
The forum is held under the auspices of the Ministry of Transport of the People’s Republic of China and organized by the Global Center for Innovation and Knowledge on Sustainable Transport (GSTIKC). Key areas of the forum include strengthening global transport connectivity, developing sustainable transport, and supporting implementation of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and the UN Decade of Sustainable Transport 2026-2035.
