Chairwoman of the Federation Council of Russia’s Federal Assembly Valentina Matviyenko highlighted the important role of women in maintaining peace and achieving sustainable development during the plenary session of the International Forum “The Role of Women in Maintaining Peace and Achieving Sustainable Development” in Ashgabat, the Federation Council’s press service reported.
According to Matviyenko, women can bring a commitment to dialogue and the ability to address pressing issues through discussion and compromise to the modern global agenda. This approach is particularly important amid changes in global politics and the economy. According to her, exchanging experience, successful practices and expertise is important for achieving sustainable development goals.
Speaking about the role of women in society, the Federation Council chairwoman outlined steps being taken in Russia to strengthen women’s role in public life. “Despite the obvious progress, we must not stop. We need to continue working to ensure that women can combine their careers, families and having children, and fully realize their unlimited potential,” Matviyenko said.
Matviyenko also highligted holding the forum in Turkmenistan was symbolic because, in her view, the country provides women with opportunities for self-realization and participation in all areas of state and public life. She congratulated the people of Turkmenistan on the 35th anniversary of the country’s independence and invited the participants to attend the fifth Eurasian Women’s Forum, which will be held in St. Petersburg in autumn 2027.
Chairwoman of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan Dunyagozel Gulmanova, who moderated the forum, said Turkmenistan views international dialogue as an opportunity for broad exchanges of views and for developing concrete and constructive proposals aimed at advancing international initiatives and putting them into practice.
Representatives of Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Iran, Belarus, Türkiye, Kyrgyzstan and Azerbaijan, the U.N. resident coordinator in Turkmenistan and the Chairwoman of the board of the National Association of Businesswomen of Tajikistan spoke at the plenary session.
