During the eighth Consultative Meeting of the Heads of State of Central Asia and Azerbaijan in Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev proposed creating a regional television channel based on Kazakhstan’s Silk Way.
According to the press service of the President of Kazakhstan, Tokayev noted that the countries of the region share a rich historical and cultural heritage. According to Tokayev, intercultural contacts have increased significantly in recent years, with exhibitions, film festivals, forums and commemorative events being held. The President proposed further developing youth exchanges, interuniversity and scientific cooperation, as well as dialogue among creative professionals.
Tokayev noted that the formation of a common information space is a natural continuation of deepening ties. In this regard, he proposed creating a regional television channel based on Silk Way.
The Kazakh President also noted the growth of intraregional tourism, which expands direct contacts among peoples and creates new opportunities to learn about the history and culture of the countries in the region. In this regard, Tokayev proposed creating a common calendar of major cultural, scientific, sporting and tourism events in Central Asia and Azerbaijan.
According to Tokayev, such a calendar would help encourage mutual travel and attract foreign tourists through combined tours.
