A regular feeder service between the ports of Turkmenbashi and Alyat has been proposed to support cargo transportation along the Middle Corridor. Elmir Poladov, Deputy chairman of the Azerbaijan Freight Forwarders Association and CEO of U.F.E. Shipping, made the statement at the EU–Azerbaijan Business Forum 2026, according to Report.

According to Poladov, Turkmenistan has significant potential to develop the Middle Corridor and that the Port of Turkmenbashi has the necessary infrastructure. He expressed hope that container cargo from China would begin moving to Azerbaijan through the Turkmen port.

To make this possible, he said, a container terminal needs to be built at the Port of Turkmenbashi and regular feeder services established between Turkmenbashi and the Port of Alyat.

According to the World Bank, the Port of Turkmenbashi has an annual capacity of 17 million tons of cargo and 400,000 containers. Report previously cited Khudayar Hasanli, a representative of the Baku International Sea Trade Port, as saying that the Port of Alyat’s container terminal currently has an annual capacity of 150,000 TEUs. The capacity is expected to increase to 500,000 TEUs after the second phase is completed.
