The number of sheep and goats at five livestock farms in Turkmenistan’s Lebap province is approaching 110,000, including about 55,000 ewes. The farms also keep more than 1,300 cattle and over 2,700 camels, the Turkmenistan newspaper reported.

Ahead of the winter season, the Serdar, Jeyhun, Garagum, Tallymerjen and Koytendag farms have stocked more than 7,500 tons of feed. Supplies include more than 4,000 tons of roughage, about 2,000 tons of field grasses, over 1,250 tons of straw, approximately 250 tons of alfalfa and 55 tons of barley.

Preparations for winter began in the summer. Livestock farmers inspected 309 sheepfolds, 89 pens and 520 wells, repairing facilities that required restoration. Feed deliveries to the farms are continuing.

According to the report, stocking up on feed and preparing livestock shelters are intended to ensure animals have suitable conditions during the cold season and preserve herds ahead of the spring lambing and kidding season.
