This year’s cotton harvest in Turkmenistan’s kicks off on September 11, except for the northern Dashoguz region, where the harvest will start a week later, on September 18, due to its climate.
The President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov gave the relevant instructions at a government meeting on Friday.
Turkmenistan plans to collect over 1 million thousand tons of cotton from 550 thousand hectares of allocated land this year.
Turkmen farmers will also start sowing wheat on September 4.
Starting next year, Turkmenistan plans to reduce land plots allocated for wheat cultivation from 760,000 to 690,000 hectares. It also plans to reduce the production of wheat to 1.4 million tons. Lands liberated from wheat will be allocated for cotton cultivation.
