The national bicameral Parliament of Turkmenistan will be named the National Council of Turkmenistan, its legislative chamber- Majlis, and the representative chamber- Halk Maslahaty (People's Council).
At a meeting of the Constitutional Commission on Wednesday, President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov focused on the structure and tasks of the bicameral Parliament.
During the meeting, it was agreed to increase the number of deputies of the new bicameral Parliament to 181 deputies. Majlis, as before, will consist of 125 representatives. Halk Maslahaty will consist of 56 deputies, eight representatives will be elected from each velayat and Ashgabat, and eight more representatives will be appointed by the President of Turkmenistan.
At the session of the Constitutional Commission, the officials also determined the authority of the chambers and considered proposals for amendments to the Constitution of Turkmenistan.
