Turkmenistan’s Ministry of Textile Industry’s Türkmenhaly Production Association and sericulture sector were transferred to the jurisdiction of other state institutions.
In order to further develop carpet weaving in the country, increase the variety and quantity of exported carpet products, Türkmenhaly Production Association was transferred to the jurisdiction of the Cabinet of Ministers. It has also been renamed as the Türkmenhaly State Association.
The sericulture sector, supervised by the Ministry of Textile Industry, was in turn transferred to the Ministry of Agriculture and Environmental Protection of urkmenistan.
In order to further develop silk sector and modernize cocoon production, the Ministry of Agriculture and the Environment was entrusted with the responsibility of organizing the production of cocoons, providing the silkworm cocoon producers with seed cocoons and processing the cocoons.
The production of national carpets and carpet products in Turkmenistan saw a 20% increase in 2019, compared to the same period last year. Export of carpets increased by 178% and the legal entities’ share in the export increased by 5%. Turkmen handmade carpets make up the 67% of the country's total carpet exports.
Ministry of Agriculture and Environmental Protection and the governors of velayats of Turkmenistan were entrusted to ensure the production of 2100 tons of cocoons.
