PETRONAS Carigali (Turkmenistan) Sdn Bhd is considering the possibility of implementing projects within the framework of a social package for workers in such areas as waste sorting, generation of electricity, heat and fresh water by using solar and wind energy.
The company plans and implements environmental protection measures as part of its program aimed at adapting production to climate change. The company also intends to conduct an energy audit to achieve energy efficiency in production.
The company began to conduct practical and training events, and activities with government organizations in the environmental field. In this regard, PETRONAS regularly cleans the Caspian coastal zone, starting from its industrial area up to the Avaza National Tourist Zone. In its cleaning activities, the company cooperates with the Balkanabat branch of the Agroecological Department of Turkmenistan’s Hazarekogözegçilik Service.
The Malaysian company PETRONAS is among the first partners of Turkmenistan to start developing offshore fields in the Caspian Sea. The company entered into a Production Sharing Agreement with the Government of Turkmenistan in July 1996 by obtaining a license for exploration and production of oil and gas in the Block-1 offshore area of the Makhtumkuli, Diyarbekir and Garagol Deniz fields.
Since then, the oil and gas company has invested around $11 billion in the country.
