A working meeting was held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan to discuss the impact of dangerous infectious diseases on the socio-economic situation in the region and Turkmenistan.
The representatives of the ministries of Turkmenistan, including Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Monistry of Finance and Economy, Ministry of Labor and Social Welfare, Ministry of Trade and Foreign Economic Relations, and the State Statistics Committee and the Central Bank of Turkmenistan attended the meeting.
The representatives of the United Nations and its divisions, including experts from the World Bank, the Asian Development Bank, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and the Islamic Development Bank in Turkmenistan also attended the event.
The meeting participants exchanged views on the analysis of the impact of the global crisis caused by the novel coronavirus pandemic on the development of small and medium-sized businesses in the country, on employment issues and on macroeconomic indicators, such as GDP growth, inflation, fiscal and trade balances.
The experts briefed on the main findings of an internal analysis of the possible socio-economic impact of the pandemic in the Central Asian region, prepared by the UN country team and the UN Economic Commission for Europe.
