Turkmenistan Holds Meeting on Expanding Legal Framework of Intellectual Property
The participants emphasized the importance of expanding cooperation with the WIPO by joining some of its documents.

A working meeting was held on Friday at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan on expanding the legal framework of intellectual property in the country.

The meeting participants noted the need for the development of cooperation with specialized agencies of the United Nations, particularly with the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), for the introduction of modern technologies and innovations in all sectors of the national economy.

The participants emphasized the importance of expanding cooperation with the WIPO by joining some of its documents to carry out Turkmenistan’s intellectual property policy in accordance with international standards and modern requirements.

In this regard, the parties discussed issues of joining the Marrakesh Treaty to Facilitate Access to Published Works for Persons Who Are Blind, Visually Impaired or Otherwise Print Disabled and the Rome Convention for the Protection of Performers, Producers of Phonograms and Broadcasting Organizations in order to expand the legal framework for cooperation between Turkmenistan and the WIPO.

The heads and representatives of the Mejlis (Parliament) of Turkmenistan, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, the Ministries of Finance and Economy, Education, Culture, Adalat (Justice) and other relevant departments attended the meeting.

Turkmenistan has been a member of the WIPO since 1995.

The Intellectual property law is based on the Constitution of Turkmenistan and regulated by the legislation of Turkmenistan, mainly in accordance with the section of the Civil Code of Turkmenistan.
