A meeting in the framework of the Human Rights Dialogue “Turkmenistan - European Union” was held in a video conference format on Thursday, Turkmen Foreign Ministry said in its press release.
The Turkmen side was represented by heads and representatives of relevant ministries and departments of the country, including the Mejlis (Parliament), the Ombudswoman, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
The European side at the meeting was represented by the head and representatives of the EU’s European External Action Service and the Ambassador of European Union to Turkmenistan.
The meeting participants discussed issues of expanding cooperation between Turkmenistan and the EU in the fields of human rights and international humanitarian law. The sides exchanged views on such issues as the development of civil society, the rule of law and judicial reform and on intensification of cooperation between the parties to mitigate the socio-economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.
In the framework of the online meeting, the participants also discussed the comprehensive promotion of economic, social and cultural rights of the people in the framework of international and local documents.
The officials expressed views on expanding cooperation between Turkmenistan and the EU in the framework of multilateral forums and international organizations.
