Turkmenistan Sets Up Its Bicameral Parliament
The national bicameral parliament of the country will henceforth be called the National Council of Turkmenistan, and its chambers - the Halk Maslahaty and the Mejlis.

The Constitutional Law "On Amendments and Additions to the Constitution of Turkmenistan" was signed during the Friday meeting of the Halk Maslahaty (People's Council) of Turkmenistan chaired by President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov. The document provides for the creation of a bicameral parliament of the country.

According to the TDH news agency, the Head of State signed the Law following its approval by the Halk Maslahaty and the country's Mejlis (Parliament).

The TDH said the amendments and additions made to the Basic Law of Turkmenistan are the most important historical initiative to create a new bicameral structure of Parliament.

President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov announced that the adopted Constitutional Law will come into force on January 1, 2021.
