Residents of Turkmenistan expect a significant cold snap on the New Year's Eve. According to weather forecasts, rain and snow mixed is expected in Ashgabat from December 25 to 26. By nightfall, the air temperature will drop, and frosts of up to –9 degrees Celsius will be established throughout the country, Orient news outlet reported on Thursday.
According to the report, significant snowfall will take place in the Balkan, Ahal, Dashoguz velayats, as well as in the central part of the Mary velayat. In some areas, the height of the snow cover will reach 10-15 centimeters. A significant increase in frost will occur on December 27 in the north and northeast of Turkmenistan, where the night air temperature will drop from –6 to –11 degrees Celsius.
In the last decade of December, sub-zero temperatures of 13 degrees below zero will be set in Lebap velayat. Freezing weather on December 28 will be established in Mary and Dashoguz velayats. Moreover, in Ahal velayat, winter nights are expected to be cold from –3 to –8 degrees Celsius.
In the coming weekend, a frosty subzero temperature will cover the country. Therefore, in order to avoid seasonal colds, it is recommended to prepare in advance for the cold weather.
