Construction Industry of Turkmenistan Achieves High Growth Results
The record growth rates in the production of domestic building materials provided a significant increase in housing construction.

The construction industry of Turkmenistan in recent years has recorded high growth results in many key indicators. The year 2020, which marked the establishment of Ministry of Industry and Construction Production of Turkmenistan, is particularly significant in this regard. The production of building materials and the commissioning of new housing have significantly increased, according to the data of State Committee on Statistics of Turkmenistan.

Comparing the indicators from 2008 to 2020, the production of cement in the country increased by 89.2% during the period. Last year, more than 1.94 million tons of cement were produced in Turkmenistan.

The production of wall materials in Turkmenistan from 2008 to 2020 increased by 168.9%. The production of conventional bricks in Turkmenistan increased from 298.9 million units in 2008 to 803.9 million units in 2020.

In 2016, at the height of the construction of Olympic Village in Ashgabat, the production of reinforcing steel, steel corners and profiles in Turkmenistan reached 92.9 thousand tons. In 2018, this figure dropped to 53,094 tons, but the following year the growth resumed and reached 60 thousand tons in 2020.

From 2015 to 2020, a significant increase in the production of wall putty was recorded in Turkmenistan. Its production increased 9.6 times and as of the end of last year reached 28,755 tons.

A high growth rate has been recorded in the production of mastic, which is widely used in construction and repair works. In 2015, only 132 tons of the material were produced in Turkmenistan, and in 2020 the figure reached 20,877 tons. The growth rate amounted to an incredible 15,715%.

Impressive growth has been achieved in the production of isogum, the roof waterproofing material. In 2015, 1.286 million square meters of isogum were produced in Turkmenistan, and by the end of 2020 this figure exceeded 7.056 million square meters, the growth rate amounted to 448.9%.

The record growth rates in the production of domestic building materials provided a significant increase in housing construction. In 2018, around 1,134,500 square meters of housing were commissioned in Turkmenistan. In 2020, this figure exceeded 2.7 million square meters. The growth rate in three years amounted to 76.9%.

The quality of commissioned residential buildings is also significantly improving year by year. In 2020, President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov instructed to supply new housing with different digital systems, which resulted in "smart" turnkey apartments available to Turkmen citizens.
