A delegation of Azerbaijan led by Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov arrived in Turkmenistan on a two-day visit on Wednesday, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan said in a press release.
Within the framework of the visit, the Foreign Minister of Azerbaijan was received by President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov on Thursday.
Later that day, Bayramov held a meeting with his Turkmen counterpart Rashid Meredov in the premises of the MFA of Turkmenistan. The diplomats stated with satisfaction the high level of bilateral ties in the political, trade, economic, cultural and humanitarian fields.
During the meeting, it was especially noted that the present visit of the Azerbaijani Foreign Minister to Ashgabat is associated with the beginning of a new stage of energy cooperation between Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan. In this regard, the officials highlighted the importance of joint steps on resource use and interaction in the Caspian Sea.
The diplomats highlighted the effectiveness of the political and diplomatic dialogue between the two countries. The sides discussed bilateral issues, as well as key aspects of the regional and international agendas. In this regard, the parties emphasized the importance of cooperation between Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan within the framework of regional and international formats.
The officials also discussed the possibilities of expanding economic and investment cooperation, including through the use of transport and transit potential of the two countries, which possess modern road, rail and sea infrastructure.
The importance of Transit and Transport Cooperation Agreement between Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Turkey and Afghanistan (Lapis Lazuli) was especially noted during the meeting. The parties intend to contribute to strengthening the potential of the Lapis Lazuli Corridor within the framework of the trilateral intergovernmental format of cooperation in the area of transport and communications.
