Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan will switch to self-financing, the relevant proposal was approved by President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov during a Cabinet of Ministers meeting held online on Friday.

During the government meeting, Vice-Premier Rashid Meredov reported on the measures to improve the activities of the Institute of International Relations, adding that appropriate proposals were developed in order to fulfill the instructions of the Head of State to transform the system of training specialists for the domestic diplomatic service, the country’s official media reports.

The proposals include the opening of some areas in the higher education institute in the upcoming academic year for the transition to a two-stage (bachelor's and master's) educational program on a paid basis. Training on this basis in other specialties and gradually transforming the institute to self-financing organization is envisioned in the following years, according to Meredov’s report.

The Vice-Premier noted that in addition, in the context of improving the structure of the Institute of International Relations, it is appropriate to open new educational departments, including a school for young diplomats, a research center for strategic research, and a digital systems and communications department.

Following the report, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov stressed that the young specialists trained by the Institute of International Relations will soon need to represent Turkmenistan in foreign countries, leading international organizations, in the global economic, humanitarian, legal and information space.

After approving the proposals, the Head of State instructed the Vice-Premier, Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov to continue systematic work on training highly qualified specialists for the domestic diplomatic service.

The Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs was opened on the initiative of the President of Turkmenistan to establish a national school of diplomacy and in accordance with a Decree signed by the President in March 2008. The institute has 4 faculties, 6 departments and 3 centers.
