Turkmen President Receives Head of UN General Assembly

President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov on Monday received Volkan Bozkir, President of the 75th Session of the United Nations (UN) General Assembly, who arrived in Ashgabat on a working visit, the official media of Turkmenistan reports.

During the meeting, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and his guest discussed the possibilities of expanding cooperation, including in the context of the tasks on the agenda of the 75th session of the UN General Assembly.

At the meeting, the parties touched upon the topic of countering the global coronavirus pandemic and reducing its negative impact on economic and social aspects, and also focused on the issue of climate change.

The Head of the 75th session of the UN General Assembly noted the contribution of the UN Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia located in Ashgabat in ensuring political stability in the region, and peace and social stability in Afghanistan.

During his visit, the UN delegation led by Volkan Bozkir also held a meeting with the Turkmen delegation led by Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov at the building of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.

The meeting participants exchanged views on cooperation between Turkmenistan and the UN on the pressing issues of the regional and global agendas. The delegations also discussed preparations for the the 26th Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP26), scheduled to take place in November 2021 in Glasgow.

Following the meeting at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, Volkan Bozkir met with the Chairman of the Mejlis of the Milli Gengesh of Turkmenistan Gulshat Mammedova.
