Turkmenistan will build a new road bridge across a strait, connecting Garabogazgol bay with Caspian Sea, and reconstruct road leading to it.

On Tuesday, President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov left Ashgabat for a working trip to Balkan velayat to get acquainted with the progress of work on the development of the region's transport and logistics infrastructure, the country’s official media reports.

During the working trip, the Head of State arrived at the road bridge across the Garabogazgol strait and got acquainted with the state of the structure. He then instructed the relevant government officials to hold an international tender for the construction of a new bridge and reconstruction of the road leading to it.

The Turkmen President stressed that the construction of the new bridge will increase the capacity of the country's road system, the quality and efficiency of logistics services, expand the international transport and transit infrastructure and trade-economic relations with neighboring states.

The new bridge will become an important engineering structure of the Turkmenistan-Kazakhstan international transport route, and the road leading to it will be docked with the Ashgabat-Turkmenbashi expressway, according to the report.

President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov also highlighted the continuous increase in the throughput capacity of the transport and transit corridor in the Balkan velayat, which plays a key role in enhancing partnerships with foreign states, and addressed the relevant government officials with specific instructions to accelerate the development of the project for the construction of the international airport near Jebel settlement.
