Turkmenistan Ready to Increase Its Energy Supplies to Central Asia
The Turkmen side declared its readiness to significantly increase the volume of its natural gas supplies to Central Asian countries.

Turkmenistan is ready to significantly increase the supply of natural gas and electricity to Central Asia and beyond, the Vice-Premier, Foreign Minister of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov said on Friday at a media briefing following the third Consultative meeting of the Heads of State of Central Asia held in the Avaza National Tourist Zone in western Turkmenistan.

The Minister noted that during the discussions on the interaction of the regional countries in the energy sector, the Turkmen side declared its readiness to significantly increase the volume of natural gas supplies from Turkmenistan to the countries of Central Asia, or through their territories to foreign markets, on mutually beneficial terms.

The top diplomat of Turkmenistan also emphasized that the capacities available in the country allow to significantly increase the supply of electricity to Central Asian countries.

According to Meredov, the maximum realization of the natural resource potential of the Central Asian region and the advantages of its geographical location requires the creation of a powerful energy infrastructure – both within the region and along its outer perimeter.

The topic of delivery of natural gas and electricity from Turkmenistan to Kyrgyzstan was discussed during the bilateral meeting between President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and President of the Kyrgyz Republic Sadyr Japarov on the sidelines of the Consultative Meeting.
