The Turkmen government commission to study issues related to the country’s accession to the World Trade Organization (WTO) was held online on Thursday, the Turkmen Foreign Ministry said in its press release.
The meeting was attended by Deputy Foreign Minister of Turkmenistan Vepa Hajiyev, heads and representatives of numerous ministries and departments of the country.
The commission members exchanged views on the approval of the Work Plan for 2021-2022 on the preparation of the Memorandum of the Foreign Trade Regime of Turkmenistan.
The officials also thoroughly studied the issue of submitting an official application of Turkmenistan to participate in the WTO activities as an active observer during the 12th WTO Ministerial Conference, which will take place in Geneva from November 30 to December 3 this year.
The participants considered a number of priority issues regarding the continuation of work on enhancing cooperation between Turkmenistan and the WTO.
The accession of Turkmenistan to the WTO as a member is provided for in the country’s Foreign Trade Strategy for 2021-2030, approved by a special Resolution of the President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov.
