Turkmen Leader Congratulates Mirziyoyev on Re-election as Uzbek President

President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov in a phone talk on Monday with his Uzbek counterpart Shavkat Mirziyoyev congratulated him on his victory in the Presidential elections, the official media of Turkmenistan reports.

President Berdimuhamedov said Turkmenistan highly appreciates relations with Uzbekistan and attaches great importance to the further development of interstate dialogue with the neighboring state.

Thanking for the congratulations, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev stated with satisfaction the progressive nature of bilateral cooperation.

During the telephone conversation, the Heads of State exchanged views on key areas of the strategic Turkmen-Uzbek partnership.

The Presidents confirmed their interest in diversifying mutually beneficial relations, which have a huge potential for further development, according to the report.

At the end of the conversation, the Heads of State expressed confidence that Turkmen-Uzbek relations, thanks to joint efforts, will continue to dynamically develop and deepen for the benefit of states and their peoples.

Incumbent Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev has been re-elected for a second five-year term, winning 80.1% of the votes, according to the preliminary election results announced by the country’s Central Election Commission on Monday. Mirziyoyev was first elected to the uzbek Presidential post in 2016, securing 88.61% of the votes.
