Top Diplomats of Turkmenistan, Iran Mull Intensification of Transport Ties
Ministers Rashid Meredov and Hossein Amir-Abdollahian reaffirmed the parties’ commitment to expanding mutually beneficial Turkmen-Iranian dialogue.

Turkmen-Iranian political consultations at the level of foreign ministers took place on Tuesday in Tehran. The officials considered issues related to the intensification of transport ties and the supply of energy resources.

The consultations were held within the framework of the visit of the official delegation of Turkmenistan to Tehran, the Turkmen Foreign Ministry said in its press release.

At the meeting, ministers Rashid Meredov and Hossein Amir-Abdollahian reaffirmed the parties’ commitment to expanding mutually beneficial Turkmen-Iranian dialogue on areas of mutual interest.

Discussing transport and energy issues, the top diplomats expressed the necessity of intensifying interaction between the two countries in the direction of Turkmenbashi – Bender-Anzali in order to build up the potential of sea transportation.

The ministers also focused on the relevance of building the potential for cooperation at the regional level, aimed at ensuring peace, security and sustainable development. The sides expressed the relevance of intensifying bilateral cooperation in the Caspian direction.

The officials highlighted the beginning of the successful functioning of another checkpoint on the Turkmen-Iranian border due to the normalization of sanitary and epidemiological situation.

In order to implement the Joint Program of Cooperation between the foreign ministries of Turkmenistan and Iran for 2021-2022, the parties agreed to hold the next round of political consultations in the first quarter of 2022 in Ashgabat.

On the same day, Turkmen Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov was received by Iranian President Seyed Ebrahim Raisi. During the meeting, the parties expressed mutual interest in further intensifying contacts within the framework of regional and international structures.
