The President of the United States Joseph Biden expressed gratitude to President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and the government of the country for help and cooperation in the transportation of citizens out of Afghanistan in August and September of this year, according to the letter of the U.S. President addressed to his Turkmen counterpart, published in the official Turkmen press on Thursday.

“We appreciate your timely assistance in promptly granting overflight and refueling clearances, as well as facilitating the transportation of passengers to subsequent destinations,” President Biden said in his letter.

Joe Biden also highlighted the importance of bilateral relations between Turkmenistan and the U.S., adding that he is “pleased to witness them strengthening year after year as we work together to support our efforts on climate, regional security, human rights and economic opportunities”.

“The United States continues to firmly support the sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity of Turkmenistan,” Biden stated in the message.

Turkmenistan established diplomatic relations with the U.S. in 1992. Established in 2008, the Turkmenistan-U.S. Business Council, promoting commercial relations between the two countries, operates in the U.S.
