Turkmen President Expected to Visit Tajikistan

President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov is expected to pay an official return visit to Tajikistan. The topic was touched on during the meeting between the President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon and the Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet Turkmenistan, Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov on Tuesday at the Palace of Nations in Dushanbe.

The top Turkmen diplomat was in Tajikistan’s capital to participate in the Central Asia - Korea Forum, the press service of the President of Tajikistan said in its statement.

The sides discussed the results of the 15th Summit of Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO), which took place in Turkmenistan’s capital Ashgabat on Sunday.

The Tajik President stressed the importance of holding the summit meeting of ECO heads of the member states and once again expressed gratitude to the Turkmen side for the sincere welcome and warm hospitality.

During the discussion of bilateral relations, the sides stressed the need for consistent implementation of previously reached agreements and comprehensive preparations for the official return visit of the President of Turkmenistan to Tajikistan.

The Tajik President and the Turkmen Foreign Minister also exchanged views on the current state of cooperation between the two countries within the framework of international organizations, and important issues of international and regional agenda.

The visit of President Emomali Rahmon to Turkmenistan took place on November 27-28. During his visit, he participated in the 15th  ECO summit and held bilateral meetings with the Heads of States of the ECO member states.
