The Newly appointed Head of the World Health Organization (WHO) Country Office in Turkmenistan Egor Zaitsev presented copies of his credentials to the Turkmen Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov in a meeting in Ashgabat on Saturday.
Zaitsev expressed his readiness to make every effort to further strengthen cooperation between Turkmenistan and the WHO, the Turkmen Foreign Ministry said in its press release.
Rashid Meredov, in turn, congratulated Egor Zaitsev on his appointment to his new position and conveyed best wishes and success in his future work.
The sides discussed cooperation between Turkmenistan and the WHO in priority areas, and exchanged views on topical issues of the international health agenda.
The diplomats reviewed results of the visit of the WHO Regional Director for Europe Hans Kluge to Turkmenistan, and the mission of the WHO Regional Office for Europe to Turkmenistan. The sides also exchanged views on the issued related to the Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Healthcare and Medical Industry of Turkmenistan and the WHO Country Office in Turkmenistan on cooperation in combatting COVID-19.
The multi-disciplinary team of WHO experts led by Dr. Dorit Nitzan, Regional Emergency Director for WHO/Europe, has recently completed a week-long mission to work with government authorities on ways they can fortify their health systems preparedness, particularly in light of the global pandemic emergency.
