Member businesses of the Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs of Turkmenistan together with the Türkmenhimiýa (Turkmen Chemicals) State Concern envisage creating the Balkanhimsenagat Open Joint Stock Company on the basis of the Balkanabat iodine plant.
The proposal on the creation of the new company was made by Deputy Chairman of the Turkmen Government for the industrial and construction complex Charymyrat Purchekov to President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov during the online cabinet meeting on Friday.
The proposal includes the reconstruction of the Balkanabat iodine plant and the expansion of its production with new chemical products demanded in industry and medicine.
In particular, the Balkanabat iodine plant is expected to start producing caustic soda, chlorine and chlorine products.
Following the briefing, President of Turkmenistan instructed the Vice-Premier to consider in detail the possibilities of increasing the production of quality chemical products in Turkmenistan taking into account the steady growth of demand in the domestic and foreign markets.
Türkmenhimiýa’s Bereket and Balkanabat plants in Balkan velayat produce over 500 tons of high-quality technical iodine annually by processing iodine and bromine-saturated groundwater. Most of the products are exported to international markets.
