More than 247 billion cubic meters of natural gas has been produced in Malay field in Turkmenistan’s eastern velayat of Lebap since the field’s commissioning in 1986, the Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov said during a meeting on Wednesday in Lebap.
The meeting was dedicated to the results of Turkmen President’s visit to Lebap velayat and discussed issues related to the further improvement of the country's fuel and energy complex, the introduction of modern scientific achievements and the development of international cooperation in this area.
The event was attended by Deputy Chairman of the Government Shahym Abdrakhmanov, overseeing the country's oil and gas industry, heads and specialists of the country’s fuel and energy complex, General Director of the Chinese National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) branch in Turkmenistan Chen Huailong and the Khyakim (Governor) of Lebap velayat.
Focusing on the Malay gas compressor station, commissioned last year, the Head of State highlighted the significance of the facility in the supply of Turkmen natural gas to the Turkmenistan-China transnational gas pipeline, dubbed a major project of the century, via the 188-kilometer Malay-Bagtyyarlyk pipeline.
Natural gas has been produced in the Malay field since 1986, Berdimuhamedov stated, adding that to date, over 247 bcm of natural gas has been produced from this field with initial reserves of 358.7 bcm.
The Turkmen President said the continuation of gas production in the Malay field, expansion of the area, as well as exploration and discovery of gas deposits in the lower layers of the developed layers are among important tasks.
President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov stressed the need to accelerate work on the full-scale development of not only the Malay field, but also other gas fields, stating that the necessary conditions for this will be created in the future.
In 2021, around 34 bcm of Turkmen natural gas was delivered to China.
