Putin Congratulates Turkmen President-Elect Over Phone

President of the Russia Vladimir Putin held a phone call with President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and President-elect Serdar Berdimuhamedov on Tuesday, the official Turkmen media reports.

Vladimir Putin cordially congratulated the Turkmen Leader on the successful holding of the Presidential elections, which became an important milestone in the modern history of Turkmenistan.

During the telephone conversation, the sides reaffirmed the commitment of the two countries to the traditional relations of friendship, good neighborliness and mutually beneficial cooperation that meets common interests.

The Turkmen Leader informed that he intends to continue his active work in a position of the Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty chamber of the bicameral parliament Milli Gengesh.

Expressing confidence that constructive interstate relations would continue to grow stronger and steadily develop for the common good, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and President Vladimir Putin addressed their best wishes to each other and the peoples of both countries.

Then the Turkmen Leader handed over the phone to the Turkmen President-elect Serdar Berdimuhamedov.

The Russian Leader congratulated Serdar Berdimuhamedov on his convincing victory in the elections and wished him great success in his activities in this important and responsible post.

Expressing sincere gratitude to Putin for the congratulations and wishes, the Turkmen President-elect, for his part, expressed readiness to continue the course initiated by President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov towards the progressive expansion of mutually beneficial partnership with Russia.

In this regard, it was noted that good traditions of friendship and cooperation have historically developed between the two countries, which meet long-term mutual interests, and also correspond to the strategy of interstate relations.

At the end of the telephone conversation, the Serdar Berdimuhamedov and Vladimir Putin wished each other health and success in responsible state activities, and peace, well-being and prosperity to the friendly peoples of the two countries.

Early presidential elections were held in Turkmenistan on March 12. Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers Serdar Berdimuhamedov won a landslide victory, gaining 72.97% of the votes.
