President of Iran Seyyed Ebrahim Raisi on Tuesday held a telephone conversation with President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and President-elect of the country Serdar Berdimuhamedov, the official Turkmen media reports.
During the talk, President Seyed Ebrahim Raisi congratulated President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov on the successful holding of the presidential elections in Turkmenistan.
Thanking for the congratulations and kind words, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov informed his Iranian counterpart about the results of the March 12 elections.
Stating that Serdar Berdimuhamedov was elected as the new President of Turkmenistan based on the results of the popular vote, the Turkmen Leader said he intends to now continue his activities as the Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty chamber of Turkmenistan's bicameral parliament Milli Gengesh. He then handed over the phone to Serdar Berdimuhamedov.
The President of Iran cordially congratulated Serdar Berdimuhamedov on his election to the highest state post and wished him great success in his responsible work.
Thanking for the congratulations and wishes, the Turkmen President-elect confirmed the commitment of Turkmenistan to the course set by President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov for the comprehensive strengthening of mutually beneficial relations with neighboring states, including Iran.
Early presidential elections were held in Turkmenistan on March 12. Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers Serdar Berdimuhamedov won a landslide victory, gaining 72.97% of the votes.
