Turkmen President Meets Chinese Defense Minister

President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov received on Tuesday a member of the State Council, Defense Minister of China Wei Fenghe.

Expressing gratitude for his time, Wei Fenghe conveyed warm greetings from President of China Xi Jinping and Premier of the State Council Li Keqiang, who wished the Turkmen people wellbeing and prosperity. He also congratulated the Head of Turkmenistan on his convincing victory in the presidential election and wished him success in his important and responsible activity.

The Turkmen President and the Chinese Defense Minister exchanged views on the prospects of Turkmen-Chinese cooperation. Particular attention was paid to implementation of the agreements reached at the highest level that are designed to bring the Turkmen-Chinese cooperation to new heights.

During the meeting, it was also noted that Chinese companies are very interested in the Turkmen market, which has a favorable investment climate. The area of introduction of advanced technologies was identified as a promising area of partnership.

President Serdar Berdimuhamedov stressed that Turkmenistan seeks to put its creative potential at the service of humanity by pursuing a policy of positive neutrality, peace and good neighborliness. The National Military Doctrine, which is purely defensive in nature and intended to ensure security of the country and peaceful and prosperous life of the people, meets these purposes, according to the report.

In this context, it was noted that China greatly respects the neutral status of Turkmenistan, which is a significant factor in ensuring peace and stability in the region, and fully supports the constructive initiatives of the Turkmen side.

At the end of the meeting, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov and Chinese State Council Member, Defense Minister Wei Fenghe expressed confidence that the fruitful interstate relations, which have passed the test of time, would continue to develop dynamically for the common good.
