President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev in a Monday phone call with Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, the Chairman of the Halk Maslakhaty chamber of Turkmen bicameral parliament Milli Gengesh congratulated him on the successful holding of a number of major international events – the first Inter-Parliamentary Forum and the meeting of the Dialogue of Women of the Central Asian countries and the Russian Federation, which took place on May 12-13 in Ashgabat.
The Uzbek President emphasized the importance of expanding parliamentary exchanges in order to promote mutually beneficial cooperation in priority areas and in this regard, expressed his support for Berdimuhamedov’s proposal to give the work of the Inter-Parliamentary Forum a regular status, with the organization of its permanent secretariat in the capital of Turkmenistan.
The phone talk focused on further strengthening the strategic partnership between the countries, according to the statement by the press service of the Uzbek President.
The sides stated with deep satisfaction the development of a fruitful inter-parliamentary dialogue between the states, including in a regional format.
The officials also exchanged views on international issues and developing productive cooperation within the framework of multilateral organizations, including on promoting peace and security, and the socio-economic reconstruction of Afghanistan.
The first Inter-Parliamentary Forum of the Central Asia countries and the Russian Federation, held on the initiative of Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, concluded with the adoption of the Ashgabat Declaration.
