Turkmenistan’s New City to Introduce Electric Bus and Taxi Services

Turkmenistan will introduce the services of electric buses and electric taxis in the new administrative center of its Ahal province, that is currently under construction.

The introduction of such services was suggested by Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, the Chairman of Halk Maslakhaty chamber of Turkmen bicameral parliament Milli Gengesh, during his inspection of the city’s construction on Saturday on the instructions of the President, the country’s official media reports.

At the site, Deryageldi Orazov, the Chairman of the State Committee for Construction of the new city and Shamukhammet Durdyliyev, the Mayor of the new city, briefed Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov on the state of constructions.

Pointing to the importance of preserving the environment, the Halk Maslakhaty Chairman stressed the need for a detailed study of the issue of training drivers and specialists in the maintenance of new types of transport.

During a working meeting at the new administrative center, Orazov said taking into account the many wishes, he has applied with a proposal to build a modern mosque for the Muftiate of Turkmenistan. Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov approved the proposal to build the mosque where 5.5 thousand people will be able to pray simultaneously.

Orazov also informed that when laying sidewalks, amenities for people with disabilities were taken into account.

The new provincial center will include 2-, 5-, 7- and 9-storey residential buildings, which will house 12,324 families, kindergartens, schools and other specialized educational institutions, healthcare, cultural, commercial and service institutions, sports facilities, administrative buildings, as well as transport, communications and engineering systems.
