The Vice President of Turkey Fuat Oktay during the sixth meeting of the Turkmen-Turkish Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation on Friday in Ashgabat announced the possibility of transporting Turkmen gas to Anatolia via the Trans-Anatolian Natural Gas Pipeline (TANAP), the Anadolu Agency reports.

The meeting was attended by heads of the leading ministries and departments of Turkmenistan and the representative delegation led by the Turkish Vice President Oktay.

Stating that cooperation in the field of energy has gained more importance with the recent global uncertainties in energy supply security, Oktay said, "With the cooperation of Turkey, Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan, we can pump Turkmen gas to Anatolia by transporting it through the TANAP line."

The Turkish Vice President expressed his belief that the negotiations held by the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources of Turkey, the Turkish energy company BOTAŞ and Turkmen state-owned natural gas producer Türkmengaz (Turkmen Gas) State Concern on this issue will yield positive results soon.

Oktay also stated the readiness of state companies in Turkey to take part in the development of hydrocarbon resources in the joint Turkmen-Azerbaijani Dostluk field in the Caspian Sea.

TANAP is a natural gas pipeline in Turkey. It is the central part of the Southern Gas Corridor, which connects the Shah Deniz gas field in Azerbaijan to Europe.

During his visit to Ashgabat, Fuat Oktay also held bilateral meetings with the President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov and the Deputy Chairman of the Turkmen Government overseeing the country’s trade and textile complex Batyr Atdayev.
