Turkmen President, Georgian Prime Minister Hold Talks in Ashgabat

President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov and Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Garibashvili held a meeting in Ashgabat on Tuesday.

The talks focused on deepening of bilateral relations between the countries, joint projects and transit potential of the countries, the Press Service of the Georgian Government Administration said in its press release.

The Prime Minister Garibashvili stated that Georgia values close political and economic relations with Turkmenistan.

The Head of Turkmenistan and the Head of the Georgian Government exchanged views on the regional transport projects and their further advancement. It was stated that implementation of strategic transport projects increases the effectiveness and security of cargo shipments between Asia and Europe through the Caspian and Black Seas, resulting in the extension of trade and economic relations, advancement of regional links and connections.

Georgia is investing heavily in the construction of new roads and railways, and expanding the capacity of sea ports. Thus, the use of a corridor passing through Georgia to the Black Sea will be favorable for Turkmenistan, the Georgian Government said in its statement.

The discussions also touched on the strategic partnership in the energy sector. The sides expressed readiness to further deepen the existing cooperation in this area.

Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Garibashvili has arrived in Turkmenistan on Tuesday on an official visit.
