Minister of Finance and Economy of Turkmenistan Muhammedgeldi Serdarov in a meeting with Artur Andrysiak, the Asian Development Bank’s Country Director for Turkmenistan, on Saturday in Ashgabat discussed the strategy of cooperation of the bank with Turkmenistan, the Ministry said in its press release.
During the meeting, Serdarov said in light of Turkmenistan's accession process to the World Trade Organization (WTO), the country’s cooperation with the ADB would be useful in improving its legislation and raising the professional level of employees. The sides also highlighted the importance of improving the investment environment, business support and cooperation in the financial and banking sector.
Andrysiak said currently the Strategy of Cooperation between Turkmenistan and the Asian Development Bank is being developed and emphasized the importance of the Ministry's recommendations to this end.
Muhammedgeldi Serdarov stated the readiness of the Turkmen side to cooperate within the programs of the Institute for Regional Economic Cooperation in Central Asia (CAREC).
The ADB Country Director congratulated Turkmenistan on obtaining the WTO observer status, noting that the ADB has been supporting Turkmenistan in obtaining membership status in this organization since 2019. Andrysiak stated ADB’s interest in continuing cooperation to this end.
