Jamshid Khojayev, the Deputy Prime-Minister - Minister of Investments and Foreign Trade of Uzbekistan, and Batyr Atdayev, the Deputy Chairman of the Turkmen Government overseeing the country’s trade and textile complex in a meeting in Tashkent on Wednesday expressed their readiness to take a set of necessary measures to increase bilateral trade to $2 billion in the near future.
Atdayev is in Uzbekistan as part of the visit of the Government delegation of Turkmenistan, the Ministry of Investments and Foreign Trade of Uzbekistan said in its press release.
During the meeting, the sides underscored the progressive development of bilateral relations between the two countries, adding that bilateral trade turnover grew by 67% in 2021 and reached $902 million. Since the beginning of year, the figure rose by another 9%. The parties stressed the importance of adopting comprehensive measures to increase mutual trade.
The sides considered holding the 17th session of Turkmen- Uzbek joint commission on trade-economic, scientific-technical and cultural cooperation by the end of this year.
The parties also considered prospects of deepening investment cooperation between the two countries. They agreed to substantially increase the number of joint projects in ready-made textile, pharmaceutical, construction and agricultural production in the two countries. Besides, the sides expressed mutual interest in organizing production of cars and agricultural machinery as well as in starting a joint production of household appliances in Turkmenistan.
The meeting also featured discussion on possibilities of expansion of transport-logistic relations, including measures to encourage the transit of goods through the territories of both countries, as well as organization of pilot transportations via international transport corridors using opportunities of sea ports.
At the end of the meeting, a participants expressed their to continue cooperation in all discussed areas in order to expand multi-faceted cooperation between the two countries.
