The meeting of the State Council of Turkmenistan chaired by President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov took place at the Ruhiyet Palace in Ashgabat on Friday, the country’s official media reports.
The meeting reviewed the achievements of Turkmenistan during the years of independence and considered the main directions of further development of the country.
The State Council meeting gathered members of the Government and Milli Gengesh, the bicameral parliament, of Turkmenistan, heads of political parties and public associations, governors of provinces, districts and cities, employees of enterprises and institutions, honorary elders and young people.
During his speech, the Turkmen President reviewed the country's achievements in domestic and foreign policy and outlined the specific tasks for further development of the country in the new period. The speech of the Head of State particularly focused on ensuring social security of the population, implementing the sustainable development goals, intensifying relations with international organizations and countries, continuing industrial-innovative path of development, pursuing flexible tax and active trade policy, promoting agriculture and modernization of textile industry, facilitating transition to green economy and digital system, supporting private producers, implementing important projects in the energy sphere.
President Serdar Berdimuhamedov signed a number of documents during the meeting. The Head of State, on the occasion of Turkmenistan's Independence Day, signed a decree on pardoning people serving jail terms, and instructed to carry out the necessary work so that pardoned persons could return to their homes and families and provide them with jobs in the near future.
The Head of Turkmenistan also signed decrees on awarding citizens of the country with state awards and after a break, presented a number of citizens with state awards.
Representatives of provinces gathered in Ruhiyet palaces of Balkan, Dashoguz, Lebap and Mary provinces and Ak Öý (White Yurt) building in Ahal province to take part in the State Council meeting via video link.
