Turkmenistan to Upgrade Maryazot Plant to End Ammonium Nitrate Import

Turkmenistan intends to reconstruct and modernize Maryazot Production Association, the chemical plant in the country's Mary province, to fully provide the domestic agricultural sector with ammonium nitrate and end its import.

Charymyrat Purchekov, the Deputy Chairman of the Turkmen Government in charge of the construction, industrial and energy issues, briefed President Serdar Berdimuhamedov on the measures to upgrade the plant during the online cabinet meeting on Friday, the country’s official media reports.

Following the report, President Berdimuhamedov stated the necessity to ensure the effective operation of all enterprises of the chemical industry and carry out systematic re-equipment of the existing production capacities in order to supply the domestic agricultural producers with necessary fertilizers.

Maryazot plant of Türkmenhimiýa (Turkmen Chemicals) State Concern is the first industrial enterprise on production of nitrogen fertilizers in Turkmenistan. Put into operation in 1984, it presently produces ammonium nitrate, ammonia, nitric acid, liquid nitrogen, liquid oxygen, polypropylene bags, soda ash and coagulant (ferrous sulfate).

2022
