Turkmenistan Raises Minimum Age For Tobacco Sales to 21
Turkmenistan also raised excise tax rates on tobacco products, on other industrially manufactured tobacco and industrial tobacco substitutes, and on alcohol products.

The minimum age for selling tobacco products in Turkmenistan, stipulated in the law on protecting the health of citizens from the effects of tobacco smoke and the consequences of tobacco consumption, was raised from 18 to 21 years.

The change was made in accordance with the Law of Turkmenistan on Additions and Amendments to to Some Legislative Acts of Turkmenistan, signed by the President Serdar Berdimuhamedov on November 20. The law was published in official Turkmen press on Wednesday.

Raise in excise tax rates on tobacco products and alcohol products.

Turkmenistan also raised excise tax rates on tobacco products, on other industrially manufactured tobacco and industrial tobacco substitutes, and on alcohol products.

The changes to the excise tax rates were made in accordance with the Law of Turkmenistan on Additions and Amendments to the Tax Code of Turkmenistan, signed by the President Serdar Berdimuhamedov on November 20. This law was published in official Turkmen press on Wednesday.

According to the amendments, the excise tax rate on tobacco products increased to 116 percent of the customs value and to $5 per pack. The previous tax rate on tobacco products was 93 percent of the customs value and $4 per pack.

The excise tax rate on other industrially manufactured tobacco and industrial tobacco substitutes is raised from 19.5 percent to 24.4 percent.

The excise tax rate on imported beer has increased to 92 percent of its customs value or 9 manats per liter; for imported natural grape wines and drinks with an alcohol content of up to 20 percent inclusive - to 168 percent of their customs value or 39 manats per liter, over 20 percent - to 168 percent of their customs value or 61 manats per liter.

The excise tax rate on beer produced in Turkmenistan has increased to 30 percent of its cost; for natural grape wines, spirits, liqueurs and other alcoholic beverages (except for grape must), and drinks with an alcohol content of up to 20% inclusive - to 39 percent of their cost, over 20% to 30% inclusive - to 61 percent of their cost, over 30 percent - to 77 percent of their cost.

The new laws entered into force from the date of their publication in the press.
