Turkmenistan and the United Arab Emirates agreed that the Emirati oil and gas companies will take an active part in the development of the next stages of the Galkynysh field, the world's second-largest gas field located in Turkmenistan’s Mary province, according to the Joint Statement adopted following the working of Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, Chairman of the Halk Maslakhaty (People’s Council) of Turkmenistan and National Leader of the Turkmen People, to the UAE on February 11-12.
The Joint Statement was published by the official news agencies of Turkmenistan and the UAE on Sunday.
In this context, the two sides welcomed the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation in the Energy Sector between the state-owned companies Türkmengaz (Turkmen Gas) State Concern and Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC), the Joint Statement added.
Both sides underlined the importance of strengthening cooperation between the two companies, in exploring potential energy projects in Turkmenistan, and the joint development of hydrocarbon resources with the subsequent marketing of products, as well the development of gas transportation infrastructures.
The sides highlighted the importance of developing cooperation in the field of energy, and reaffirmed their support for joint activities and projects in the oil and gas sector, including investment activities. The two parties also agreed to strengthen cooperation in the field of renewable energy and to advance projects and initiatives in this regard.
The visit of Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov to Abu Dhabi took place at the invitation of the UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
During the visit, the Halk Maslakhaty Chairman held talks with the Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers, Minister for Presidential Affairs of the UAE Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
