In January-February months of 2023, the foreign trade turnover of Turkmenistan saw a year-on-year increase of 3.4 percent due to growth of export and import, the Deputy Chairman of Turkmen Government in charge of economic and financial issues Hojamyrat Geldimyradov, announced in his report during the online cabinet meeting hosted by President Serdar Berdimuhamedov on Friday, the country's official media reports.
In his report on macroeconomic indicators for January-February period of this year, Geldimyradov informed that the volume of production compared to the same period last year increased by 6 percent.
The retail trade turnover saw a year-on-year increase of 9.5 percent. The volume of investments in Turkmenistan from all sources of funding in the first two months of this year grew by 9.1 percent compared to the same period last year.
Following the report and addressing the Vice-Premier and other relevant officials, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov instructed to monitor the current situation in the world and intensify work in the financial and economic sphere. The Head of Turkmenistan also instructed to constantly analyze and strictly control the fulfillment of the production plans by ministries, agencies and departments.
At the end of the cabinet meeting, President Berdimuhamedov stated that the results of the past two months demonstrated that Turkmenistan continues to develop dynamically, adding that GDP growth remains at the level of 6.2 percent.
In this regard, the Head of Turkmenistan stressed the need not only to maintain the achieved results, but also to increase them.
The government meeting summed up the work of sectors of national economy for the past two months of the year and discussed a number of other priority issues of state affairs.
