Chairman of Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov at extraordinary summit of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS) in Ankara on Thursday expressed hope that Turkmenistan would soon become a full member of the OTS, Anadolu News Agency reports.
Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov noted that with the modernization of the legislation, Turkmenistan may join the organization.
The National Leader of Turkmen people also proposed to declare the city of Merv in Turkmenistan’s Mary province the cultural capital of the Turkic world in 2024.
Speaking of February earthquakes, the Halk Maslahaty Chairman stressed the importance of the unity of Turkic world. "On a difficult day we should support each other, we need to be there for each other on such a day," Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov said.
The Halk Maslahaty Chairman emphasized that the OTS member countries are located in seismically active regions. "I propose to lay foundation for seismic control in Turkic world countries," Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov added.
In his speech at the OTS summit, the National Leader of Turkmen people also suggested nominating Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan for the Nobel Peace Prize.
Furthermore, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov proposed to improve the situation with the provision of energy resources among the OTS member states.
The topic of the extraordinary OTS summit was "Disaster-Emergency Management and Humanitarian Assistance". The summit was attended by the heads of the Organization's member states. The Prime Minister of Hungary and Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan represented the countries with the status of observers in OTS.
