American Councils searches for Makerspace Project Trainer

Position Description
The Makerspace project will be held in all four American Spaces to educate and inspire high school students to explore STEM subjects such as robotics, VR, 3D printing, math, and science. Through this program teenagers will have opportunities to engage in hands-on, creative learning experiences that foster critical thinking, problem-solving, and collaboration skills. The Makerspace program aims to empower teenagers to become active creators and innovators in an increasingly technology-driven world. By the end of this project, students should be able to design a creative project and present on it during a final maker fair conducted at the American Spaces.
This project will be held in English in the Ashgabat, Turkmenabat, Dashoguz, and Mary American Spaces over 10 days between July 10, 2024, until July 26, 2024 (tentative). The job is great for someone who has project or event management experience and enjoys working as part of a team and working with high school students. This is a temporary part-time position for the one-month period of July 1, 2024, until July 31, 2024. Please note that the position requires attendance at a two-days training of trainers (ToT) in June 2024 in Ashgabat. This position reports to and coordinates with the American Spaces Experiential Learning Assistant and American Corners Grant Manager (project coordinators).
Responsibilities:
- Conduct Makerspace training at the American Center in Ashgabat and at the American Corners (depending on where you applied,) utilizing the curriculum and ideas developed during the TOT.
- Utilize interactive tools and methods to engage the students.
- Identify local experts from your own city or region and invite them as guest speakers and jurors.
- In collaboration with American Spaces staff organize a Mini Maker Fair at the respective locations.
- During the project implementation, conduct and collect surveys and photos/videos from the activities.
- Upon the completion of the project, submit detailed reports, evaluation forms, statistics, and photos from the project activities to the project coordinators.
Qualifications:
- A Bachelor’s degree or higher;
- Strong verbal and written communication skills in English;
- Knowledgeable about the STEM field; work experience in Makerspace area is highly desirable;
- Experience in activity or project organization is preferred;
- Previous experience in conducting trainings is preferred;
- Strong leadership skills and the ability to organize, encourage, inspire, and motivate youth;
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, creativity, initiative, and problem-solving skills; ability to work independently and in a team.
