An event dedicated to the 31st anniversary of diplomatic relations between Turkmenistan and Türkiye was held at the Turkish Embassy in Ashgabat on Tuesday.
The event was attended by heads of diplomatic missions, representative offices of international organizations in Ashgabat, and local media.
"I am proud to address you today as the ambassador of the first country to recognize independent Turkmenistan and to open the first diplomatic mission in Ashgabat. Since the establishment of this embassy, Türkiye and Turkmenistan have cherished exemplary relations based on historical, cultural, linguistic, religious ties between our brotherly peoples," said Turkish Ambassador Togan Oral in his remarks to the guests.
Additionally, a photo exhibition was held to mark the 500th anniversary of the Turkish diplomatic service and the 31st anniversary of the Turkish Embassy's opening in Ashgabat; its emblem was also presented during the event.
"The coat of arms is decorated with 16 stars symbolizing 16 independent Turkish states that have existed throughout history. Our emblem is identical to all other Turkish embassies located around the world, but perhaps it takes on a different meaning here since many of these stars symbolize thousands of years of our common history with Turkmenistan," Togan Oral said.
The Turkish Embassy opened in Ashgabat on May 2, 1992, is the first embassy in Independent Turkmenistan.
