Central Asian Presidents Meet in Dushanbe

The fifth Consultative Meeting of the Heads of Central Asian States took place on Thursday in Dushanbe, the capital of Tajikistan, the official Turkmen media reports.

The summit was attended by the President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov, the President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon, the President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, the President of the Kyrgyz Republic Sadyr Japarov, the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev. Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev has also joined the summit as an honored guest.

During the meeting, the Turkmen President Serdar Berdimuhamedov put forward a number of initiatives, according to the report.

In his speech, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov proposed the creation of the Central Asian Chamber of Commerce, the Central Asian Council on New Technologies, the Energy Dialogue of Central Asian Countries, as well as the launch of the Central Asian Transport and Logistics Platform.

President Berdimuhamedov added that Turkmenistan will continue to actively work during the upcoming 78th session of the UN General Assembly and will propose a number of initiatives for consideration to the international community, including those directly related to the development of the Central Asian region.

Serdar Berdimuhamedov emphasized the priority to expand trade-economic relations between the regional countries and increase the volume of mutual trade turnover.

The summit talks resulted in the signing of the Joint Statement and a number of documents, according to the press service of the President of Kazakhstan.
