In 2024, Türkiye reached historic records in tourism by welcoming 62.2 million foreign visitors. This figure represents a 9.8% increase compared to the previous year and a 20.3% rise over the 2019 pre-pandemic level. The country successfully exceeded its forecasts, which initially projected 60 million tourists for 2024, later adjusted to 61 million in October, as reported by the Embassy of Türkiye in Turkmenistan.
Tourism revenue also saw significant growth, totaling $61.1 billion, an 8.3% increase from 2023. This achievement made 2024 the most successful year for Türkiye in terms of tourism earnings. Europe, the Middle East, and Central Asia remained the leading markets for the country, while new destinations such as the USA, India, and China showed impressive growth.
Tourists from Russia, Germany, and the UK continued to make up the majority of international visitors to Türkiye. Simultaneously, there was a notable increase in the number of tourists from other countries: visitors from the USA rose by 8.1%, from China by 65.1%, and from India by 20.7%. On average, international tourists spent 10.7 days in Türkiye, with revenue per visitor amounting to $972.
According to the United Nations World Tourism Organization, Türkiye ranked among the top five most visited countries in the world for 2023. These tourism achievements position the country as an attractive and promising destination for international travelers.
