Kyiv Hosts Exhibition of Turkmen Carpet Weaving and Embroidery

The Embassy of Turkmenistan in Ukraine on May 26 organized a cultural event titled “The Art of Carpet Weaving and Embroidery as a Symbol of the Diligence and Craftsmanship of Turkmen Women” to mark Turkmen Carpet Day, the Embassy of Turkmenistan in Ukraine reported.

The event brought together representatives of the Club of Spouses of the Foreign Diplomatic Corps in Ukraine, members of the Ukrainian public, figures from the cultural and education sectors, and guests interested in the history and national traditions of the Turkmen people.

Guests attended a thematic program dedicated to Turkmen carpet weaving and national embroidery. Participants learned about the history of Turkmen carpets, the symbolism of traditional ornaments, the features of handmade production and the significance of carpet weaving in Turkmenistan’s national culture. The program included photo and video presentations.

Special attention was given to the inclusion of Turkmen carpet-making art in UNESCO’s Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2019, as well as the addition of the national embroidery art Keşdeçilik sungaty to the UNESCO list in 2022.

The event also featured an exhibition of Turkmen decorative and applied arts, including handmade carpets, traditional embroidery, national clothing, jewelry and household items.

The musical part of the program highlighted the cultural ties and atmosphere of friendship between Turkmenistan and Ukraine. The event concluded with traditional Turkmen cuisine.
