A new solar power station has opened at Secondary School No. 36 in Mary as part of joint projects between Turkmenistan’s Ministry of Education and UNICEF, according to UNICEF’s Representative Office in Turkmenistan reported Thursday.
The 12.5-kilowatt station is equipped with a 48-kilowatt-hour battery system and a digital monitoring system. It will provide lighting for the schoolyard and sports ground, including in the evening and during power outages.
The new power station is also planned to be used as an educational laboratory, allowing students to gain practical experience with renewable energy technologies.
The project was implemented under the joint Green School program of Turkmenistan’s Ministry of Education and UNICEF. The program aims to improve the sustainability of schools and integrate climate and environmental protection issues, as well as knowledge on reducing the risks of natural hazards, into the educational process.
