Malaysia is ready to support long-term cooperation between its oil and gas services companies and Turkmen enterprises, including technology transfer, specialist training and the development of local suppliers, Malaysian Economy Minister Akmal Nasrullah bin Mohd Nasir reported during a plenary session of the OGT 2026 International Conference and Exhibition in Ashgabat.

About 20 Malaysian companies specializing in oil and gas services and equipment (OGSE) are participating in the exhibition. Seven of them are represented at Malaysia’s national pavilion. The delegation is attending the event as part of an initiative by the Malaysia Petroleum Resources Corporation (MPRC) to expand national companies’ access to international markets.

According to Nasir, Malaysian companies are ready to act not only as suppliers of equipment and services but also as long-term partners of Turkmen businesses. He stressed that the results of such cooperation should be measured not only by contracts signed but also by practical benefits for Turkmenistan, including job creation, expanded opportunities for local suppliers and the transfer of professional skills.

Nasir recalled that a Malaysian delegation visited Turkmenistan in June, when he and Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers Guvanch Agajanov signed a framework agreement between the governments of the two countries on the development of hydrocarbon resources.

The Malaysian economy minister also highlighted the contribution of PETRONAS, which has operated in Turkmenistan since 1996. The company’s presence had contributed not only to hydrocarbon production but also to infrastructure development, the growth of local expertise and the training of qualified specialists.
